Watson for Cyber Security, a cloud-based version of IBM’s cognitive technology, trained on the language of security as part of a year-long research project with eight universities to greatly expand the collection of security data IBM has trained the cognitive system with. UA team wins Dow Big Data Challenge

UA team wins Dow Big Data Challenge

A University of Alabama student team from the Culverhouse College of Commerce recently won the 2016 Dow Big Data Challenge. Team members Bryant Cassidey of Mobile, Ala., and Ford McDermott of Atlanta are master’s students in operations management, specializing in decision analytics at Culverhouse. They competed with some 20 teams composed of up to two graduate students and one undergraduate student. Read more

U.S. Dept. of Energy expands its use of AIMMS

The U.S. Department of Energy has chosen to expand its use of AIMMS for its NEMS Electricity Market Module, a model that determines the most economical way to supply electricity, within environmental and operational constraints, based on fuel prices and electricity demands. ?AIMMS has been used to implement several component models of the National Energy Modeling System since 2012.
